Los adverbios de lugar nos indican dónde se desarrolla una acción. Se colocan generalmente después del verbo principal o de la proposición a la que modifican. Los adverbios de lugar no modifican adjetivos u otros adverbios.

"Here" y "There"
Here y there son adverbios de lugar muy utilizados. Indican la posición de algo en el espacio con respecto al hablante. Con verbos de movimiento, here significa "hacia o con el hablante" y there significa "lejos o fuera de alcance del hablante".

Here y there se colocan al principio de las oraciones exclamativas o cuando es necesario enfatizar. Van seguidos del verbo cuando el sujeto es un nombre y de un pronombre cuando el sujeto es un pronombre.

Muchos adverbios de lugar pueden también utilizarse como preposiciones. En este tipo de uso, deben ir seguidos por un nombre.

Los adverbios de lugar que terminan en -where expresan la idea de situación sin precisar lugar o dirección.

Adverbios de lugar que terminan en -wards
Los adverbios de lugar terminados en -wards expresan movimiento en una dirección particular.
Ejemplos
- Cats don't usually walk backwards.
- The ship sailed westwards.
- The balloon drifted upwards.
- We will keep walking homewards until we arrive.
Atención: towards es una preposición y no un adverbio, por lo que siempre debe ir seguida de un nombre o un pronombre.

Ciertos adverbios de lugar expresan movimiento y posición en el espacio al mismo tiempo.
